Keeping tabs on events....
In light of recent events that have occurred circa.7580 I will compile a little roster of geopolitical priorities for Kamura just to keep track of whats going on.

West Davai

Arsas is in the process of approving Anisoran overland access through Davai, potentially opening up Yannic markets to Anarian trade via the back door. Some strategic goods such as cash crops and some raw materials are harvested from the Western regions of Yan in Maritime Davai.

Kamura may seek to tighten it's grip on certain areas of the mainland to secure some control of access to these goods for it's own markets.

Anarian powers are also interfering in neighbouring Xian, namely Anisora again, and coaxing Xian into supporting insurgencies against Kamuran possessions in the region. Smuggling, as well as an accessory to the war effort is also opening up a clandestine trade route circumventing the Kamuran straits.

Raia

Several Anarian powers have (or should have) possessions in the Raian Archipelago that act as forward bases for extraction of resources and trade in Raia and Davai. With the war in Haniyyahs between Ithrien and Aedeland diverting much trade west into Raia new wealth opportunities are arising.

Kamura does not want to stand idly by as Anarians lap up all the diverted trade pouring out of the Phasian Sea into a historic zone of influence for Kamura. Might it be the time for Kamura to flex her renewed maritime strength?

Altaia

Here Kamura is mostly concerned with reestablishing ties with the breakaway Sriaav states of the Altaian Reach with prospects at reintegrating the Reach. The Reach itself is in the process of extending influence into the Altaian interior where a crumbling tributary empire is buckling under the strain of internal strife, pest infestations and Wolgos raiding and expansion.

There's the run down of potential narrative arcs Kamura could participate in. I suppose Felipe and Alex are going to be the ones most involved with these. Let me know when you want to begin laying down some lore, that is if the Western Hemisphere is a priority right now....

RE: Keeping tabs on events....
Thanks for the useful summary! Kamura has a lot of emerging opportunities around it to exploit. Excellent!

I parked Anisoran intervention in western Davai after we discussed it all last year for fear of overstepping Anisora's realistic power. I've always wanted Anisora to be involved in this region (as I think you are right, more Anarians should have some sort of stake in the Shangti), but concerns about Anisora's relative power in the ledger made me reconsider the plausibility of such an ambitious scheme (the Zitgau concession).

However, with Anisora signing the big Anisoro-Arsasan Treaty (we might have to come up with a better name for it!), and Jeff's comments about Anisoran naval power, I am beginning to reconsider it as a possibility. If a revival of Anisoran fortunes is on the cards, then an ambitious Anisoran project in the Shangti might be an option (but, as always, there are issues of imperial overstretch to consider - particular due to Anisora's position in western Anaria). If we throw into the mix the Moreva Petroleum Corporation (arguably the fastest growing oil corporation in Gotha, or at least in Anaria), then that further fuels interest in the region. Whether this all succeeds or fails is for RP to decide!

Having said all that, in the real world, there would be competing Anarian (European) powers trying to undermine Anisoran interests or protect their existing (historical) influence in that region. If Amberia and Helreich are going to be played by active players again, maybe there could be some interesting interaction going on. But what about other Anarian powers? The only other state to have a presence here is Auresia. Naturally, of course, Kamura is central to everything, but I just mention it in terms of competing influences.

I'd be interested to hear other peoples' opinions on this.

Vittmark is stretched to (and possibly beyond) its possibilities to become very active in the region. But they're there and they will do marginal stuff. Vittmark is too insignificant to punch a dent in a butter stick, but they make great entourage in storylines and RP.

I think Anisora would probably be better suited to pursuing a stratagem of securing an overland route to West Davai via Arsas due to it's location. You could create quite a Marco Polo-esque narrative in that regard but with added 8ft monster men and airships! Remember this is steampunk. Seeing Pastanan traders turn up at the backend of Yan would probably startle some Kamuran strategists and trigger a more hands on, interventionist response on the Empire's part in Yan.

I would imagine you RPing mostly corporate ventures out there with Arsasan backing and maybe some Yannic Nationalist factions who want to obtain Anarian goods and technologies for uplifting their country.

As for the Shangti, I'd have thought Auresia, Amberia or Halland would be better candidates lorewise. I'm tempted to take on RP responsibilities for Halland if we go down that route and write them a narrative in the region that compliments Kamura.

On Vittmark, I've been wondering if you want to maybe upgrade it's status perhaps by holding hegemony over some neighbouring territories. It probably would make a pretty decent Central Stodavian power which might be a useful plot device for complicating the impending mess on the sub-continent. Also Fisks are an entity of their own being a mostly private registered company with interests in the Shangti. I've always thought Kamura gets on quite amicably with them.

When I joined Gotha (back in the days when internet still was in black and white) I made a choice to play a minor, but not insignificant nation. I just came from a conworld project where I was running one of the 5-6 most important nations so effectively that it became too dominant, IG and OOG. I'm quite happy where I am. I don't need a big gun to put holes in heads, that works perfectly fine with a surgical tool as well... Wink

Smaller nations like The Netherlands have made quite an impact in the colonial age, and Sweden is even smaller but a pretty strong brand worldwide at the moment. We need those types of nations as well on Gotha.

In my experience, playing a powerful, centralized nation offers more opportunities for involvement.

Jeff speaks truth. Auresia is centralized, if not super powerful, but could be so much more so if I'd not butchered some choices I made in the past. Part of what I aim to try and fix.

I think Vittmark wouldn't have to change much to fit better with a new narritive. Could make the nation itself the senior overlord of a union of small OPM's (One province minors) in central Stoldavia. It would still be in the league of a regional power like Sweden with close economic and security ties to it's neighbours and a modest, mostly corporate presence overseas.

I made a suggestion that Tom builds upon the Auresian colonial presence in Raia some time since. At the time you admitted you were disinterested but I'm wondering if your view has changed on that matter? You already have colonies on Tzeraka and D'Runia, the latter in a strategic position near a major strait. Presumably this is to project power beyond the straits and into Raia and the Shangti. You can yet build an empire that's got a little bit of it all!

Senior of OPM's does not fit Vittmark's history. It might fit a future Vittmark, but at this point, about 15 years after formation, bossing around a loose allegiance does not seem very plausible. But it might be an IG development... Let me think about that.
