Cedelphia is the capital city of the Auresian Empire.

Located on the Corbolo River in the heartland of Tavirosa Prefecture, the city is also a prosperous trade center. It is the location of Veneziano Palace, seat of the Dynast Sovereign; Pomesena Palace, meeting place of the Parliament, and headquarters of the Curia and Armed Forces. The city has very ancient roots and is among the oldest metropoli in all of the world.

Natives of the city are known as Cedelphians. Cedelphia is known as the "Eternal City" and the "Imperial City".

Before the gathering of the Founders nearly 2,500 years ago, Cedelphia was a prosperous city-state that enjoyed special status in the Karsk kingdom of Iconium. It was also an official site for neutral gatherings between the other three kingdoms - Aquitania, Narona, and Oriensis. Each of the kingdoms had fought several conflicts, primarily over the Hattaro Straits or access to the fishing in the waters the three nations shared. Cedelphia, the next major settlement past what is now known as Porto Imperiale, always managed to be just outside the conflict boundaries, and its neutrality even as a city of one of those nations was critical to both its future and that of the lands around it.

New Imperial Capital

About a century prior to the last war the three kingdoms would fight - remembered in Auresian history as the Last Great Blood War or the Ante-Imperium War - a manor house in the community of Auresia, which is now part of the Fobosi District - was the site of the first meetings between the Founders. The name of the community would be taken as the name of the First Imperium.

Cedelphia is a popular attraction for tourism and those simply interested in seeing the sights. The ancient city has countless wonders of art and architecture that add their magnificence to the splendor of the Imperial capital and also offer a piece of its rich history.

The capital city was initially built as a modest village, but has since expanded into a vast metropolis that has completely covered the five hills that lie at its center, and into the areas surrounding them. In modern times, the city has become a lavishly built and maintained metroplex, and combines Classical and modern styles. It is broken up into 28 districts which surround the central area where Five Hills is located within Aurelio District. An unofficial twenty-ninth district - the Works - is largely underneath the city and not counted as a regular district.

  • Five Hills - This area is the center of the capital and the Empire. At the center is Aurelio, site of Veneziano Palace. Surrounding it are Palatane, site of Taralona Palace; Esquilius, site of Pomesena Palace; Serviona, site of Albarella Palace; and Caelius, site of the Hall of San Vincenzo.
  • Piazza dell'Epoca - The official center of the city, just east of Five Hills. It is the site of the Founder's Monument.
  • Magliana - Just south of Five Hills and Piazza dell'Epoca. Site of the Piazza Impellizeri, Forum di Ludovico, the Great Clock of Magliana and the Villa Publica.
  • Montessari - The governmental district, home to most of the Curia ministries.
  • Trieli - Site of the Memorial Cenotaph in Montemara Square.
  • Videnza - Also known as the Ambassadorial Ward, it is home of the various embassies maintained by foreign nations to the Empire.
  • Desrini- Taken up entirely by the Imperial botanical gardens.
  • Fobosi
  • Potemini - A patrician residential district, home to the majority of the patrician estates in the capital. It is also home to the Parco della Fontane.

  • Prenestina - The second of the business districts of the city, home to a wide range of shops both luxury and common. It is also home to Grimaldi & Company and Perelli & Company.
  • Procopia
  • Settocamini - Site of the Imperial Fashions & Textiles Museum.
  • Bellarigio
  • Garbatella - Site of the Imperial Culture & Heritage Museum, the Imperial Science Museum, and the Imperial War Museum.
  • Infernetto

  • Capanella - This district is also known as the Military District. It is home to the Arsenal, headquarters of the Imperial Auresian Armed Forces.

The Cedelphia Works is one of the most extensive such networks in the world, encompassing hundreds of miles of corridors and serviceways where the water, power, fuel and heat systems of the capital can be accessed and serviced. Vast, cavernous machine shops and workshops are found here as well, with large stocks of parts and materials for servicing any infrastructure needs the city has. These are located underneath the streets of the metropolis, and often times fill in extensive sections of the space between the tunnels of the Imperial Tubes.

Transportation through Cedelphia's many districts is done by horse and buggy, trolley car, metro, bicycle, motorized bicycle and vehicle. The Metropolitana, also known as the Imperial Tube or Metro-1 - is one of the world's most sumptuous and extensive underground rail networks, and is the world's oldest. For longer range travel, the Fancoso Skyport provides air travel to every major city in the Empire and many points beyond, offering one of the largest facilities in the Empire and in the world for aero travel. Similarly, the rail networks of the Realm come together at Grand Imperial Station in one of the largest and busiest rail stations in Gotha. Cedelphia is the only city in the Empire that has access to all seven main rail lines which span the country - Silver, White, Red, Yellow, Green, Blue and Purple. The Gold Line is also accessed from Cedelphia, but what runs it and where it goes are not common knowledge. The central avenue of the entire city - the Via Camorazza - runs from the Great Gates of Cedelphia all the way to the southern periphery of the Aurelio District, which it runs around and then continues northward.

Rumors drift about of a second metro network, built below the Imperial Tubes themselves, which is used solely by government and military personnel. It has no formal name, but Cedelphians like to call the rumored system "Metro-2".

Despite being near the heart of Tavirosa Prefecture, Cedelphia maintains concealed anti-air defenses as well as concealed artillery batteries for holding off land attacks. There are also four full groundnaut divisions and a groundnaut mechanical division stationed at the nearby Fort Marlene and Fort Tellus. Within the city itself, law enforcement is handled in different areas - the Ministry Police patrol the streets of the Five Hills and Montessari, the Imperial Transport Police and the professional officers of the Polizia Metropolitana.
