Biography

From the heartlands of Narona Province, near the City of Canals, the Duchy of Barberini is a sprawl of vineyards and groves of fruit trees that surround lavish gardens which in turn surround the sprawling Barberini Palace. Here for nearly seven centuries the House of Meraggio has called home since their original house at Caladroma was destroyed in a fire in 6894. Recovering from the loss, the family moved to the other side of the duchy and established Barberini Palace in its modern form in 6898, completing construction of the central house in 6909 and later making four separate additions over the intervening centuries.

It was among the traditions of Barberini Winery and the family business of making and selling some of the finest wine in the world that a young Dante Meraggio would be raised. Although he ultimately gained his education in other fields, he remains an avid gardener and vintner, and cares for the vineyards with the same care and affection as his ancestors had done for centuries.

At the age of five, Dante attended the Veneratio Scientia where he would receive an aristocrat's education. Like so many before him and alongside him, he studied many subjects, ranging from elocution, music and deportment to jurisprudence, equitation, history and constitutional law and much more. He received "O" levels in his final examinations and graduated with a high grade point. He was presented a Scarlet Letter for his writings on historical analysis and cultural relations. Before joining the Military, he spent two years at Ferdinando College at the University of Gaaze. Intending to gain his certifications for education and earned a tenure at Gaaze - teaching medical anthropology - he focused on those subjects and graduated in August 7554.

During his service with the Imperial Armed Forces, Dante was an artillery officer with the Fifth Order. He would see deployment in the Returner War and oversee a fire base at Orinosin Point during the later phases of the conflict. Injured during a night raid on the base by enemy troops, he took a bayonet to his arm which rendered him unable to hold and fire his own weapon properly. Forced to the rear by the damage done, he had to have his arm operated on twice to correct the damage, but still suffers with partial neuropathy in that arm and hand to current day. Finishing his service as an artillery commander, he departed active duty with honors and was decorated several times.

Cephorus IV chose Lord Meraggio to serve on his Council based on their friendship and his familiarity with his education and his experiences. He is likewise said to be a well-humored man, though stern and unnervingly cold when angered. Some describe him as the quintessential aristocrat, polished and professional, and dedicated to his work. He has the Emperor's trust and support, and is one of his closest friends and confidants among the Lords Paramount.

Private Life

Lord Meraggio has been married since 3 June 7553 to Altaria Meraggio, the daughter of an engineer working in the glassmaking industry. They have two sons and daughter together. Dante himself is the eldest of three boys. He and his wife are regular guests at Epoxague when the Emperor is in residence and also maintain a house in Dolcega Valley.

Lord Meraggio is an active hunter, preferring pheasant and deer. He likewise has played the basilet - known in some nations as a banjo - since he was eight years old. As a trained and highly qualified medical anthropologist and pathologist, he is frequently involved with a range of experiments in the Hesperidium Facility at Mount Olivia, and often collaborates with Lord Acilida.
