The Honours & Orders System of the Imperial Auresian Armed Forces serves to recognize service, loyalty, discipline, bravery and skill in both war and peacetime under the flag of the Empire. The decorations and recognitions listed herein are the higher tier of decorations any Imperial trooper can earn, and are the ones accorded the most accolade.

Also listed here are several distinctions accorded to both military personnel and Curia officials.

Chivalry Orders

Order of Girandoni

The Most Excellent Order of Girandoni is the most senior of the knightly orders of the Empire, and is reserved for heads of state, senior military officers and senior civil servants. It is intended as a recognition for the recipient's great contributions of service. Membership is granted at the pleasure of the Dynast Sovereign, is limited to only 100 persons, and new appointments are only made when vacancies arise. It comes in three grades (from lowest to highest) - Knight Companion, Knight Commander, Knight Grand Cross.

The Order was established in 7381 by Dynast Emperor Magnus V. It was named for the fortress of Girandoni, north of Cedelphia, which was the focus of three key points in Auresian history - it was said to have been the home base of the infamous Girandoni Enclave, which is said to have influenced the unification of Auresia into the First Empire; it was the site of the last battle of the War of the Banners and the place where the last of the Accardo family was betrayed by the Lamberto and exiled; and, it was where Dynast Father Cephorus I held the conclave after his coronation where he named his first council of lords.

The decision by Emperor Magnus V to create the Order came from a desire to, "establish an order of chivalry which reflects the Auresian spirit - we build, we rise, we may falter or fail, but we always rise again to the challenge."

Order of the Evening Star

The Most Honourable Order of the Evening Star is the senior-most of the civil orders of Auresia. It is awarded in recognition of service and accomplishment to both military and civil officers, as well as to foreigners upon recommendation. Membership is granted at the pleasure of the Dynast Sovereign.

The ranks of the Order are (lowest to highest) - Companion, Knight (or Dame) Commander, Knight (or Dame) Grand Cross.

Order of the Yellow Ribbon

The Most Distinguished Order of the Yellow Ribbon is the second most senior of the civil orders of Auresia. Its primary qualification is in recognition of an individual's contributions to the interests of humanitarianism and charitable work, as well as promotion of those initiatives which seek to preserve and improve the lot of society. Membership is granted at the discretion of the Dynast Sovereign.

The Order has only one rank, that of Companion.

Imperial Wensician Order

The Imperial Wensician Order is the third most senior of the civil orders of Auresia. Its presentation is at the discretion of the Sovereign in recognition of any service or contribution to the Empire and its people.

The ranks of the Order are (lowest to highest) - Companion, Knight (or Dame) Commander, Knight (or Dame) Grand Cross.

Order of the Auresian Empire

The Most Venerable Order of the Auresian Empire is the fourth most senior of the civil orders of Auresia. It is presented to those who make significant contributions in the fields of arts and culture, science, and engineering. It is presented at the discretion of the Sovereign, traditionally as part of the Annual Honours List, a ceremony undertaken every December just before Winterfest, honouring those so named.

The ranks of the Order are (lowest to highest) - Companion, Knight (or Dame) Commander, Knight (or Dame) Grand Cross.

Imperial Service Order

An order exclusively for those in the service of the Curia, it is used to recognize excellent service and long periods of faithful service. Presentations exist for 20, 30, 40, and 50 years of service. The 50-year decoration is the only one that has diamonds and platinum in its construction.

Any member of the Order has the post-nominals ISO.

Honours

Phalera

Awarded to individual soldiers and to units of the military for distinguished performance. The modern phalera are roughly the size of a 0.05 centiri - 21.21 mm in diameter - worn on a special bar pinned to the uniform tunic just above any ribbon bars.

The phalera are still an uncommon decoration because they are awarded on the recommendations of an officer of the rank of brigadier or above, making them hard to attain. They come in four levels - 1st (gold), 2nd (silver), 3rd (bronze) and 4th (iron).

They have the image of a cavalryman, a infantryman, a marksman or a grenadier to reflect the disciplines being honored.

A silver phalera, from the II Dynasty.
Standard w/ multiple phalera from the I Dynasty.

Armilla

A braided cord worn fastened to the button of the left shoulderboard and draped under the arm, the armilla is a decoration awarded for a range of criteria. The color of the armilla is determined by the recognition in question.

These armilla represent the highest honors of Auresian military service and represent, as the Dynast Empress Wensicia Maxima herself said once, "Those who have bled, suffered, and nearly died in defense of the Empire and its honor."

Any recipient of the Order of the Golden Legion or the Order of the Templar's Cross can travel anywhere in the Empire by air or train, and internationally, for free. They are issued a special card which identifies them and allows arrangement that the fare is covered by the Empire itself.

  • Order of the Golden Legion - Legio d'Oro - The highest degree of personal discipline and bravery in battle short of knightly orders.
  • Order of the Legion of Honour - Legio d'Onore - Mentioned for personal involvement in High Command dispatches.
  • Order of the Templar's Cross - Croce Cavaliere - Distinguished bravery in the face of the enemy.
  • Order of the Scarlet Sash - Fascia d'Rosa - Grievously wounded in combat, nearly slain but surviving in spite of harsh odds.
