The Ministry of Commerce - Ministero del Commercio - is the arm of the Imperial Curia of Auresia responsible for the Empire's efforts in the gathering and study economic and demographic data for business and government decision-making, and setting commercial and industrial standards. The ministry works to preserve Auresian trade, commerce, and industry.

Overview

The organization is managed at its top level by an officer known as the Minister of Commerce. This individual serves as the chief economics officer of the Empire.

The Ministry employs approximately 1,103 people as 1.1.7579.

Structure

The Ministry of Commerce consists of the following subordinate agencies -

  • Department of Census & Excise

Managed by the Assistant Minister of Commerce for the Census & Excise, this agency is responsible for conducting the decennial Imperial Census, and using that information to establish the general demographic picture of the Empire and its colonies. This information is critical to the decennial reviews and alterations that may be required to the tax and excise codes.

  • Department of Consumer Affairs

Responsible for providing a means that consumers can use to voice their displeasure over various goods and services within the Empire, this agency acts to ensure that laws regulating the standards and metrics by which qualifications for certain services and goods are maintained and enforced. It is led by the Assistant Minister of Finance for Consumer Affairs.

  • Department of Industry & Security

This branch of the ministry, led by the Assistant Minister of Commerce for Industry & Security, deals with issues involving national security and advanced technologies. Its mission is to regulate the export of sensitive goods and dual-use technologies in an effective and efficient manner; enforcing export control, anti-boycott, and public safety laws; cooperating with and assisting other countries on export control and strategic trade issues; assisting Auresian industry to comply with international control agreements; monitoring the viability of the Imperial defense-industrial base; and promoting initiatives to protect the nation's critical infrastructures. Items on the Commerce Control List (CCL) - which includes many sensitive goods and technologies - require a permit from the Ministry of Commerce before they can be exported.

  • Department of Patents & Trademarks

This agency of the ministry is responsible for issuance of patents to inventors and businesses for their inventions, and trademark registration for product and intellectual property identification. It is overseen by the Assistant Minister of Commerce for Patents & Trademarks.

  • Department of Price Administration

Essentially the agency in charge of price regulations on certain critical goods and services, this agency of the ministry is overseen by the Assistant Minister of Commerce for Price Administration. It serves to ensure that laws and restrictions limiting prices on those goods and service are observed. In the event, such as during wartime, that price controls would be required, this bureau would serve to enforce those controls.

  • Department of Statistics

Led by the Assistant Minister of Commerce for Statistics, this branch of the ministry is responsible for the collection, analysis, and dissemination of important social, cultural, economic, and industrial data on a wide range of subjects and concerns. This data is used in a vast range of research and study initiatives. This data is provided to the ministries and other agencies, as well as Parliament and the First Minister's Office.

  • Competition & Markets Authority

Directed by the Assistant Minister of Commerce for Competition & Markets, this agency is responsible for strengthening business competition and preventing and reducing anti-competitive activities.
