Politics of Auresia

Within the Auresian Empire, the political system of the nation has a strict expectation of service, disciplined professionalism and focus on the needs and expectations of the High State from day to day. Meritocracy is the rule for those beyond the high aristocracy, and those who are recognized from long service, military accomplishment or reward for exceptional performance are those who are tapped for important posts.

Major Entities

The Dynast Sovereign

From their pinnacle as the master of the High State, the Dynast Sovereign is the single most powerful and important individual in its system. Hidden from the public view by their inner circle and the various ministers and officials who maintain the day-to-day business of the Empire, they maintain a watchful eye over the politicians and military officials who carry out his will.

Bills passed by the Imperial Council are brought to him for review, and he can choose to either grant Imperial Assent, affixing his signature and seal, which formally accepts the bill into Imperial Law, or veto it, sending it back to the legislature with a brief stating the reservations which led him to block the legislation. Every year, on the first Monday after Neo Annum, the Dynast Sovereign formally opens the Council.

The Sovereign is also the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Imperial Auresian Armed Forces, and is responsible by tradition and mandate of their office to oversee the military operations of the realm, be it in peace or wartime. Likewise, they review and approve all of the most senior officers of the armed forces, and these leaders are answerable directly to him.

Most commonly, the Dynast Emperor resides in the Sovereign Chambers of the Imperial Sanctum at the Veneziano Palace in Cedelphia. He also has a private estate at Epoxague and a third, undisclosed site elsewhere in the Empire.

The Council of State

The Imperial Council

The Bureaucracy

The Lords Paramouts hold command authority over the Imperial Curia, with each maintaining close contact with specific aspects of government affairs. Through these organizations, the policies, laws and concerns of the High State are formulated, executed and maintained. Each has unique and critical services they perform that help to establish, prove or support the power and authority of its officers.

The following generalized ranks and titles can be found within the membership of the Bureaucracy.

  • Minister
  • Deputy Minister
  • Director
  • Deputy Director
  • Senior Clerk
  • Clerk

Other Groups

Delegates General

Also known as the nuncio imperiale, these officials are personal representatives of the Dynast Emperor who are not beholden to obey the commands of the Council or show any special deference to the ministers or senior Curia officials. As personal envoys speaking directly for the Emperor, they are subtle officers who are used to convey sensitive information, requests and inquiries and have maximum security clearance under very quiet but intensive control. They answer only to the Emperor and serve at his pleasure. These officers serve to bypass any political influences as the activities these officers engage in are only via Crown sanction.

The formal title of an officer holding this post is "Delegate General". They are equal in rank diplomatically to an Imperial ambassador plenipotentiary, and equal in rank militarily to a legate. In some rare cases, an official of this posting will fill in as the diplomatic representative of the Empire to another nation instead of the usual ambassadorial appointment.
