Teodoro Andor Rex Lord Humilio, 23rd Duke of Barcega LP GCG KGL KDL GES OMM SS TC - is a Lord Paramount of the Court, and the serving Lord Privy Seal to the Dynast Emperor of Auresia. In this capacity he is the personal right hand of Emperor Cephorus IV. He is also the Duke of Barcega, and as a consequence of his noble title, he is the head of the Royal House of Humilio.

Alongside the First Minister - Lord Barsavi - he is one of the two most powerful men in Auresia after the Emperor himself. Some observers have described him and Barsavi, operating under the direction of the Dynast Emperor himself, as part of the "Imperial Triad" which is the core of all political power in the Empire.

Teodoro Humilio, of the Barcega line, was born into a family with a combined political-military tradition that stretched back untold centuries. Raised by his father Giacomo and mother Brigida Humilio at the family's sprawling palace at the Barcega estate, he was the oldest of three, with a sister (Rosalia) and brother (Gaetano) younger than him.

At the age of three, Teodoro and his younger sister joined their parents in traveling to the Auresian colony of Shing Pol, on the shores of Davai on the Shangti Ocean. His father had been appointed administrator of the colony for the establishment of a new shipping route for the tea harvests and to help mediate a dispute between the Imperial colonists and locals. It would be during this time that the young Humilio would begin picking up on his first foreign language. He and his family would return from Shing Pol in time for him to begin his general education.

Upon reaching the age of five, Teodoro entered the Veneratio Scientia where he would take up the training of a young aristocrat. For the next ten years, he would study elocution, music, deportment, jurisprudence, literature, equitation, poetry, history, geography, constitutional law, theology, mathematics, biology, chemistry, physics and philosophy, among other courses.

Teodoro received his regular education from the private tutors of the prestigious and private Veneratio Scientia in Cedelphia from 7544 to 7554. He received "O" levels in his final examinations and graduated with a top grade point. He earned a coveted Scarlet Letter for his efforts in engineering and the sciences.

After departure from the Veneratio, Teodoro attended the University of Gaaze until late 7555. His focus was engineering in mechanics and energy. He achieved an associate degree in mechanical engineering in August 7555. At this same time, he took his final form of training in Via Vesica - Way of the Blade - a blade-fighting tradition exclusive to the aristocrats of Auresia. In late 7555, Teodoro joined the Imperial Armed Forces. He would continue his advanced education during his first three years of military service concurrent with his being advanced to officer rank. Also during this time, he took advanced marksmanship courses, leadership and tactics courses, as well as further training in survival, advanced hand-to-hand combat, and other officer-mandatory subjects.

Teodoro would spend eleven years in the military, rising to the rank of colonel by the time of his being chosen to lead the Ninth Hoomhoffers on their secretive and widely-thought-suicidal mission that would culminate in the Battle of Puldarn. He is a veteran of the Returner War, having led troops at Belgadarion and Bone Pass, before he was hand-picked by Marshal Venchenzo and sent southward through the unaligned territory east of Lavea known as the Freemarches. It was midnight of 30 March 7562, and the Interregnum was over.

Puldarn was cold that time of year, and the Hoomhoffers were wearing their heavier combat uniforms along with the hoods and face masks that accompanied winter combat gear. Blowing a section of the fencing protecting the Puldarn Yards, Commander Humilio pushed through with his lead elements and directed troops towards the docks and airship towers. The collapse of the north airship tower brought two airships down with it, sending them crashing into warehouses holding coal, various chemicals used for engine maintenance, and equipment for repairs. The ensuing explosions raised a blaze that would nearly consume the shipyard warehouses in their entirety.

Over the next four hours, Humilio and his troops fought the enemy forces guarding the shipyards while continuing to destroy various facilities within the grounds, including two more airship towers, a large dock and collaterally the workshops and warehouses that the collaping airship towers crashed into. As the sun was coming up, additional companies of enemy troops arrived and began cornering Hoomhoffer squadrons and calling in machine gun units. Humilio himself was shot twice - once in the leg, once through the lung - while moving away from an incoming fire squad and taken prisoner.

Humilio spent the remaining months of the war as a POW interred at Camp 434, an outpost near the western border, far behind military lines. After his return to Auresia following the signing of the Returner Treaty, Imperial surgeons reported that he had been tortured during his captivity, with one of the bullet injuries he had not having been cleaned out and sewn shut. He had burns on his hands and feet consistent with intentional exposure to high heat. He also had been subjected to cuts along his arms and legs, and was malnourished and extremely weak from being given little water to drink. When debriefed by the Imperial Intelligence Service, it was revealed he had been tortured on at least eight different occasions for information regarding Auresian troop movements in and around Orensus Mons and in the center lands of the Gash.

The authorities had recognized him by his name as the grandson of a powerful duke and as a member of one of Auresia's Great Houses. It had been his position and rank - colonels and captains in the Auresian military tend to be well-informed of general operations in an area they are operating in - that had brought about the decisions to torture him. Only the end of the war likely saved him worse indignities, something he remains very grateful for.

After several months of rehabilitation and proper medical care, Teodoro was released from Medical Limitation Status, and returned to Active Duty Status. In November of 7564, Teodoro departed active service with the rank of commander and decorations denoting his service, bravery and injuries. His return home was made bittersweet by the death in mid-Winterfest - 25 December - of 7564 of his grandfather Hanseph Humilio, the sitting Duke of Barcega. His ascension to the ducal seat kept him occupied for some time afterward, but he would begin regularly visiting with his friend and future emperor in mid-7565 after he was named Crown Prince, gradually becoming part of his court-in-waiting.

Lord Privy Seal

Emperor Cephorus IV chose Lord Humilio to serve as his Privy Seal for his wartime experience, his no-nonsense business style, and the high level of trust and respect he had for the man he had known since childhood. In the traditions of the Imperial Family, Teodoro's ascension to Lord Privy Seal made him an unofficial member of the Imperial Household, and he built the trust and strength needed in the very intimate professional relationship between the Emperor and his Privy Seal that is necessary for the functions of the high post to be managed properly.

Lord Humilio maintains a quiet but powerful presence, and is a stoic but trustworthy voice of the Emperor in all State affairs. As the Privy Seal, he is in command of the 100 men and women who comprise the Privy Secretariat, the Imperial Government agency that is a branch of the Imperial High Seat responsible for providing archiving, research and secretarial services to the Emperor and Empress.

Also as Privy Seal, Lord Humilio is the majordomo of the Court of Elestis, and the one who vets final permission or denial for those who seek access to his master that he knows do not have prior approval. It is only via him that people may gain access to the Imperial presence.

Private Life

Lord Humilio has been married since 20 February 7556 to Kadolan Humilio, nee Cartsisio, whose father is a highly respected surgeon and State medical official. They have four sons and a daughter together.
